FAQ

  • I'm having trouble connecting. Help!
    See the troubleshooting page.
  • What browsers does WebSharing support?
    The following browsers are supported:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 7 and later.
    • Mozilla Firefox, version 2 and later.
    • Apple Safari, version 3 and later.
    • Google Chrome.
    • Browsers based on the above products.

Internet Explorer 6 is supported, but with a substantially reduced user experience. We strongly recommend IE6 users upgrade to a more modern browser. Opera browsers currently do not work very well due to bugs in the Opera rendering engine (starting in 9.5) that were reported by NextApp to Opera more than one year ago.

  • Does WebSharing require Flash?
WebSharing itself does not require Flash. There are however two features of WebSharing which do require Flash, the media player and the multiple file uploader. If you do not have Flash 9 or later installed, you will not be able to play back music or upload multiple files at once with your browser, but everything else will work as expected.
  • Is it encrypted?
WebSharing does not yet provide the option to encrypt transmitted data. We recommend configuring your Wi-Fi router to use WPA or WPA2 with AES encryption if you need to securely transfer data. WebSharing does use encryption for transmitting your login password, and signs all connections with SHA-256 digital signatures to ensure that only an authenticated user can control the device.
  • Does WebSharing work over cellular connections?
WebSharing can work over cellular connections, if your cellular carrier allows it. This may depend on your phone, plan, local cell network/towers, and/or other variables. WebSharing does fully support sharing over cellular networks if your phone is able to receive incoming connections from the Internet. A warning will be displayed when launching cellular connections to prevent accidentally using this feature, and it may be entirely disabled from the "Network Settings" area of the Settings menu.
