The User Interface

The user interface of FX is divided into three parts:

  • The center of the screen, the "work area" is used to display whatever you're working on. Typically this is a list of files, photos, music tracks, or network locations.
  • The "location bar" at the top shows you where you are and where you've been. You can drag it left and right when its content is wider than the screen. Tapping a previous location in the location bar will take you there.
  • The menu at the bottom provides access to various features to operate on the content displayed in the work area. Tap a menu to open it. Tap anywhere outside the menu to close it.

Selecting Items

To select an item, drag your finger horizontally across it. To deselect it, repeat the process. You can drag from left-to-right or from right-to-left as desired. Items can be selected regardless of whether items are being displayed as an icon/thumbnail grid or as a list.

To quickly deselect all items, open the "View" menu and tap "Clear Selection".

Menus

The menu at the bottom of the screen is used to do work on the selected items in the work area. For example, when the work area contains a list of files, you can tap the "File" menu and press "New Folder" to create a new folder.

Some menu items require items to be selected before they can be used. For example, to delete one or more files, you will need to first select the files in the work area. Once the files are selected, open the "File" menu and tap "Delete".

Tapping and Holding

If you want to do something to a single item in the work area, just place your finger on the item (tap) and then leave it there for a moment (hold). A "context menu" will appear with a list of things that can be done to the single item.

For example, if you want to rename a file, tap-and-hold it. When the context menu appears, tap "Rename".
